PMRE General Breakfast Meeting-Oct. 29, 2008 Call To Order: 9:50am Present: Andy MacAvoy, Jane Conetta, Brigid Kinney, Tony and Sue Segelski, Mary Sayer, Claire Siegel, and Kal Raustiala + 50 members. Andy MacAvoy-Welcomed all. The election is upon us and if anyone wants to help in making phone calls to NYSUT Members; it is daily 10am-3pm. Address and location in our Newsletter. Brigid Kinney read the minutes from previous meeting-Sept. 3, 2008. No Treasury Report due to Dot Braunstein's absence. Jane Conetta reported on The NYS Retiree Council Meeting in Albany which she had attended with Kal Raustiala. Much of the business concerned itself with preparations for the NYSUt Convention and Legislative Updates. We were assured that our pensions are safe and protected by The NYS Legislature. We were also told that in light of our fiscal crisis to forget anything to be passed concerning an enhancement of COLA. For Now, the Republicans have backed off on Gov. Paterson's 4% property tax cap. Tony Segelski pointed out how vital and important our PMRE Liasons to PMCT truly are... They are our watchdogs and are voting members of the RA Assembly. We had two liasons: Marge Quinn and Sue Schneck. We are entitled to four- we were pleased to annouce that Beverly Shifrin and Mary ann Engelhardt volunteered to be our PMCT Liasons. Claire Siegel had no news to report. Sue Segelski told us that Bess Carmichel is being released from Resp. Rehab on Oct. 31, 2008. Bess is very grateful for all the cards and well wishes that she received. Sad note: Terry Sosik's husband recently passed away. Mary Sayer collected contributions for Making Strides Breast Cancer Walk. Our members donated $200.00 to this great cause. Kal Raustiala of RC22 stressed the importance of Vote-Cope.
